The Meerkat Experience

My Earthwatch project for 2003 was team 3 (September 9-22) of Meerkats of the Kalahari at the Kuruman River Reserve on the edge of the Kalahari Desert.

From left, Tarek of Jordan, Kate of Buffalo NY, Alan of Australia, Marie of Ireland, Adin (project coordinator), Linda (researcher and cook).

We had cute little rondavels to live in ..

.. protected by a razor wire fence?

Ummm. Are these the killer giant meerkats of legend?

No, they weren't :)

As well as watching meerkats, we did hard manual labor (fence-clearing) ..

.. and watched the sun set over the dunes.

A well-stocked fridge.
